The Volpe Center?s Information Technology Support Division is seeking an undergraduate student to assist Volpe team members on projects involving the development of Oracle database systems, E-Business applications, and Internet/Intranet we sites.
Incumbent will provide support and assistance to database and software applications developers working on leading edge E-Business data warehouse systems and web site development projects. This is an excellent opportunity to receive valuable experience while assisting senior level government experts working on large scale Information Technology development projects for a federal agency. Assignments will provide trainee with hands on experience involving software/database systems development lifecycle and IT project management methodologies. Specific tasks include:
Analyzing and defining data requirements and specifications;
Designing, normalizing, developing, installing a nd implementing databases;
Maintaining, monitoring, performance tuning, backup, and recovery of databases;
Installing, configuring and maintaining database management systems software;
Analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements;
Developing and administering data standards, policies and procedures;
Developing and implementing data mining and data warehousing programs;
Application of information security, information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of data management services;
Qualification Requirements: Candidates for this Student Employment position must be a student who has been accepted for enrollment, or who is enrolled, as a degree seeking student in an accredited 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, majoring in IT/Computer Science/Management Information Systems. Students currently enrolled must be taking at least a half-time academic course load in the appropriate field of study. The successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate, orally and in writing. Knowledge of web development, databases, Oracle and the web are necessary
