This is a Student Trainee position under the Pathways Internship Program. The employee performs a variety of basic tasks which would aid them in their development and growth as a planning professional. The employee works with senior staff members to provide assistance in the technical guidance, tools, and strategies to improve transportation programs, organizations, and decision-making. These responsi?bilities require the application of basic skills in policy and program analysis, community/transportation planning and gathering and analyzing facts. The position is located in Cambridge, MA.

The ideal candidate for this position is pursuing a degree in Community Planning, or related degree, and has an interest in transportation.

Major Duties:

  • Receives on-the-job training and basic assignments to attain familiarity with the various routine planning analyses related to transportation systems.
  • Explores transportation system relationships from the perspectives of promoting safety, mobility, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
  • Provides assistance to develop, plan, and implement guidance, tools, strategies and programs to improve transportation programs, policies, organizations, etc.

This is an Excepted Service appointment. As part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended until the selectee?s educational program requirements have been completed. You may be converted, without a break in service, to a term (time-limited), career, or career-conditional (permanent) appointment upon graduation and completion of program requirements but there is no guarantee. The selectee is on a trial period while on the Pathways Internship appointment.

This announcement may be used to fill part-time or full-time internship positions starting during the Spring 2013 semester or for the Summer 2013. Relocation is not offered with the position. You must live in the local commuting area of the duty station location (Cambridge, MA).
